Your pregnancy is unique to you; for this reason your antenatal education content should be chosen solely by you. There are suggested topics that you may wish to include, such as:
• Preparing and Your Third Trimester
• Labour & Birth
• Preparing for Alternative Births
• The First Few Postnatal Days
• The Practical Side of Caring for your Newborn
• Feeding Your Baby
• Induction of Labour
However should there be anything additional that you wish to include this will be incorporated into your personalised session plan.
Depending on what works best for you, sessions can be delivered virtually or face to face (within West Yorkshire).
If you have had a baby before but wish to have a refresh on certain topics, a personalised session plan is created to cover just those parts that are a little hazier!
Getting breastfeeding off to a good start is invaluable. If you feel that you would like additional breastfeeding support, a support session can be provided at your home, or virtually, to assist you in your breastfeeding journey.
When having my first baby, I knew I wanted to try breastfeeding. Quite soon after my baby arrived, I woke up one night to feed and felt absolutely helpless. I tried latching my baby on, but felt like I was suffocating her and felt like she didn’t have a good latch, I was worrying that she wasn’t getting enough milk. I reached out to The Next Steps, who could sense my anxiety and after talking with Olivia, for even just the first few minutes, I felt at ease. We had a support session over video call and Olivia demonstrated different ways to help me and help my baby with this journey. She observed me feeding my baby and guided me very considerately and in a dignified way. I can honestly say, this was the best support I’d received!!!! Just showing me the different ways to help my baby latch was everything I needed and since then, our breastfeeding journey has been so smooth. Olivia also offered further catch-up sessions should I need it to see how I was getting on, which was great to know she was always there if I needed her support. Thank you The Next Steps, your advice and support has been invaluable!
I can positively say that the information and advice you’ve provided today has already made a huge difference for my journey.
I’ve attended free support groups before but this was much better than the traditional approach.
Also your flexibility to visit me at my house was great, because I really struggle to leave the house during the postpartum period and that’s where I needed support the most.
I will definitely recommend you to anyone I know who is pregnant or had a baby recently!
